Our library for church and school is presented located in two rooms--the elementary library is located downstairs and is open during the school day. Books of interest to older folks including our junior high and high school, as well as church members, is located in the computer lab on the main level (end of the main hallway).
We have a “Book Fair” which is held twice during the school year. Our first one was held in October 6th-8th with Scholastic Books for the first time. Our theme was Read, White, and Blue. We opened at 8:00am and closed about 4:00pm. We held a family event on Wednesday morning in which we served coffee and doughnuts for the parents.
In the three days of the book fair we sold $3,127.31 of merchandise; $2,902.37 minus the state required tax (7.75% which equaled $224.94). We used $12.93 of the profit in books and chose to take the rest in cash for a remaining profit of $699.73 which we used to purchase a new computer and scanner for the Library. We will also receive $100.00 in vouchers for books for the various things we did during the fair. This Book Fair was very successful due to those who purchased merchandise and my volunteers.
The next book fair will be held March 8th-9th 2005. Again we will be selling after church on Wednesday to give everyone an opportunity to purchase books.
Elementary students are reading for a monthly pan pizza “Book It” sponsored by Pizza Hut and a free Six Flags pass upon reading 600 minutes within an allotted time limit.
